Savannah is the oldest city and the first capital of Georgia. A quick 45-minute drive from Hilton Head Island will bring you to the city center which is well known for it’s twenty-two historic squares. The downtown area consists of several districts including the Savannah Historic District and the Savannah Victorian District. Considered the most haunted city in America, the spanish moss lined streets can definitely be a bit spooky at night which just adds to the charm.

The main shopping district is along East Broughton Street. The place to be at night for the younger crowd is down on River Street with it’s numerous night clubs and restaurants. The Savannah River separates South Carolina from Georgia and is the entryway to The Port of Savannah, one of the largest seaports in America. Popular modes of transportation around Savannah include rides in a horse drawn carriage and river taxis. A short ride to the east of Savannah will bring you to Tybee Island, Savannah’s beach community.

Savannah’s fame has risen in recent years due to the popularity of Paula Deen’s restaurant, The Lady & Sons as well from fame associated with the book and movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It’s home to the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design and America’s second largest annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
